How to Introduce a New Cat to Your Home

Cats Meeting

Introducing a new cat to your home requires patience and understanding. Cats are territorial, and a slow introduction is essential to reduce stress and promote harmony. A new cat in an existing cat's territory can cause lots of problems if not done correctly!

Before introducing your new cat, prepare a safe space with food, water, litter box, and a comfy bed. This should act as your new cat’s safe haven. Avoid any direct contact with your resident cat, until a later stage in the process.

After the initial adjustment period, let the cats get used to each other’s smells by switching blankets, or toys from each of their safe spaces. If this goes well, you can then move to visual contact by placing your new cat inside of a cage, and allowing your resident cat to sniff it.

Key Steps for a Smooth Introduction

By following these steps, you can increase the chances of a successful introduction and create a peaceful environment for all of your feline friends!
